Community Views

We live in Darley, Coimadai and Merrimu for many reasons. The irreversible impact on our property values, visual amenity and local community is huge. Community engagement is most successful when it establishes and delivers on clear expectations and gives everyone in the community the opportunity to have a voice. Following are community views (both visual and written) that highlight our personal concerns about the impact of this Project.

Fairway Crescent, Darley

We used to live in Coimadai, overlooking the Lerderderg State Park. As the kids grew, we decided to move closer into town but were reluctant to give up our stunning outlook. After months of searching we found a great block of land at the northern end of Darley, overlooking the southern end of the park. When then embarked on a two year project to build our own home (as owner builders), what an experience. Now it’s all complete, we love nothing more than spending time in our rear yard, thrilled we are still so close to the gorge and its sweeping views. The outlook is amazing and we love relaxing on the balcony watching the black cockatoos and wedge tailed eagles circle above. Such a great feeling to have nature on our door step.

Then one day, we heard a rumor of transmission towers. Long story short, I have not slept well since as the mental anguish keeps my awake most nights. The knowledge of this project and the lack of understanding from AusNet is soul destroying. There is no price you can place on the impact on our views, property values, mental health and the benefits that living in this rural setting can bring.

Get Involved

The only way to make a difference is to get involved. It’s easy to sit back and wait for others to do something but when you are staring at 75-85m towers in a few years time, you will kicking yourself for not doing something when you had the chance.  This is OUR only chance to stop these towers, so get involved now.

Welcome to the home of Darley Power Fight. A group of residents in Darley, Coimadai and Merrimu, united against high voltage transmission towers passing through our backyard. We came together through the realisation the transmission line will divide a narrow corridor between Darley and the Lerderderg State Park; altering landscape character, causing widespread damage to critical habitat for threatened species, increasing fire risk to the Park and thousands of residents, destroy our visual amenity, harm local agriculture and will impact businesses and property values. It will completely desecrate, in a few years, what nature has taken millions of years to create.
